The other evening I went to a preview of the Ace Hotel that is due to open its NY location within a month or so.
I had scouted this hotel a few months back when just a demo room was open, and was actually really excited about what it was going to offer.
The hotel will offer a range of styles/prices in rooms and a beautiful large scale lobby featuring eats by the Spotted Pig, Stumptown Coffee, and a barber shop to boot. All the rooms feature original artwork by a variety of NYC artists, as well as SMEG refrigerators filled with goodies from all local NY businesses. Good stuff!
On the preview night, only one floor was available to view, and it had a few different rooms open for guests to mingle, drink and snack on delicious Spotted Pig treats.
Looking down the grey hallway of rooms with open doors filled with young hip industry people jumping from room to room, I, as well as my two friends and co-workers that had joined me, felt as if we were in a really really nice dorm hall. The staff that was hosting was young, flirty and fun....perhaps a bit too flirty at some points. We all hung out for a while in each of the rooms and after about 5 drinks we were ready to get off that floor and get out into the real world.
The night was fun, but very surreal. I am interested to see how Ace Hotel NY does when it opens. The hotel also has locations in Portland, Seattle and Palm Springs that apparently have quite a following. Check it out!
